Owl Zentangles

Students in Grade 3 have completed their first drawing project for the year. These are our beautiful Owl Zentangles!

We spent the first part of the term learning about lines and patterns. Students were then shown examples of creative ways to use line and pattern in a special type of art known as 'Zentangle'. Zentangle is an easy to learn method of drawing that makes specific use of structured lines, patterns and shapes to create beautiful works of art. The practice of Zentangle is enjoyed all over the world, and helps to increase focus and creativity. It is a very relaxing way of making art.

Students began this project by studying different types of owls and discussing their features. We looked at examples of other owl zentangles and brainstormed some ideas for the lines and patterns we could use. Students were then shown how to draw a simple owl outline, and were given the opportunity to experiment with the shape of their owl. Students then used fine liner pens to draw their patterns, and painted a colourful background using warm or cool colours.

We are thrilled with the result! Well done Grade 3 on such an amazing effort for your first drawing project for the year! It has been great to see so many of you enthusiastic about art.
