Owl Zentangles

Students in Grade 3 have completed their first drawing project for the year. These are our beautiful Owl Zentangles!

We spent the first part of the term learning about lines and patterns. Students were then shown examples of creative ways to use line and pattern in a special type of art known as 'Zentangle'. Zentangle is an easy to learn method of drawing that makes specific use of structured lines, patterns and shapes to create beautiful works of art. The practice of Zentangle is enjoyed all over the world, and helps to increase focus and creativity. It is a very relaxing way of making art.

Students began this project by studying different types of owls and discussing their features. We looked at examples of other owl zentangles and brainstormed some ideas for the lines and patterns we could use. Students were then shown how to draw a simple owl outline, and were given the opportunity to experiment with the shape of their owl. Students then used fine liner pens to draw their patterns, and painted a colourful background using warm or cool colours.

We are thrilled with the result! Well done Grade 3 on such an amazing effort for your first drawing project for the year! It has been great to see so many of you enthusiastic about art.

Performing Arts News

Students in years Prep to Grade 2 have enjoyed an excellent start to Performing Arts this term. We have been discussing our rules and routines for our lessons, and it has been great to see the students listening well and following instructions.

Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on the musical elements of beat and rhythm. The Preps had a wonderful time dancing to the beat and singing songs this week, whilst the grade 1s and 2s used instruments to follow the beat and learn a simple rhythm in a new song. Many students commented that they enjoyed our lessons this week, and that they learnt something new. Hooray!

Listening to songs, singing and clapping to a beat is a great way to have fun with your child, and they can learn at the same time! So pop on a favourite tune, dance and clap!

Oil Pastel Bird Drawings

The grade 1 and 2 students have been working hard on finishing their first drawing project. Below are some work samples of our oil pastel bird drawings.

We had lots of fun learning about birds and their colours and features. Students then followed instructions on how to draw a simple bird outline on black paper. It was great to see some students experimenting with the oil pastels, blending colours and practising the lines and marks we learnt earlier in the term. We even added some extra detail by sticking some feathers on our birds.

These will be ready for display around the school soon, so keep your eyes peeled for some colourful birds who will certainly brighten your day!

Students in years Prep to Grade 3 have enjoyed an excellent week of learning in Visual Art! We discussed some important rules for our art room and how to look after our room and equipment.

We started our unit on drawing, exploring the use of lines in art. We had lots of fun discovering the lines that are all around us.

We learnt that lines can be straight, curvy, wavy, dotted and zig-zagged. We learnt that lines can go up, down, and all around! We also discovered how lines can make shapes and patterns in our art. Students enjoyed experimenting with lines and making marks on their paper using oil pastels.

We are looking forward to next week when we can put our new knowledge into practise in our drawings!
