Students spent many weeks painting the discs with special weather resistant paints and coming up with various designs utilising their knowledge of line and pattern. Many students chose to mix their own colours using a palette of blue and green, with highlights of yellow and white. Each disc has been carefully hand painted with an undercoat of base colour, followed by unique and wonderfully creative designs once the undercoat was dry. The larger discs were each given an undercoat of spray paint. Every disc was then sprayed with a finishing clear gloss spray for added protection and shine.
The trees were hand painted by myself (Emma-Jane) and my friend Alexis. The 400 or so discs were then attached to the branches using liquid nails, each and every one of them carefully placed for optimum visual effect!
This mural is just one of three murals that will follow at Kerrimuir over the next two years. Eventually the trees will wrap around the adjacent walls in a full spectrum of colour!
I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to this project, both those near and dear to me and my colleagues at Kerrimuir who have been so supportive and helpful. I am so very proud of the students and all of their effort and hard work. I couldn't have done this without the assistance and encouragement of others and it's something that I know will be cherished by the community for years to come.
