As part of their unit on the brain and body systems, students in the senior grades studied the skeletal system in art and learned the process of rendered drawing. Students learned the difference between different grades of pencils and how to use them properly for drawing. Students watched a demonstration of a rendered drawing from start to finish, including how to plan an initial sketch to adding shading detail in their artwork. Students planned their sketch in their visual diaries and once confident, moved on to drawing a final piece on white A4 paper.
I must say I was absolutely blown away by the results of this project. All students approached this task with meticulous attention to detail and improved their drawing skills immensely throughout the duration of this unit. I was also very impressed by some students who were inspired to complete their own drawings at home and brought them in to share with myself and their classmates. This makes what we do in art a very worthwhile and enriching experience. The students at Kerrimuir are very talented indeed!
