As part of their unit on natural disasters, students in grades 5 and 6 created these three-dimensional volcano sculptures. Students learned about volcanoes and studied their shape and form. Students then scrunched newspaper and used masking tape to create a volcano form with a dip in the centre. This was attached to an A4 sized board. The following week, students added a material known as 'Sculpt-It', which, once dry, gave a texture similar to that of rock. Students then painted their volcano sculptures and added tissue paper, cellophane and merino wool for a fiery, smokey effect. A fantastic job by the senior students.
