Tsunami Waves

As part of their unit on natural disasters, students in grades 5 and 6 created these mixed media tsunami waves. Students began by studying tsunamis, and the devastating affect they can have. We discussed the shape of the wave and how to create the effect of sea spray coming off the wave. Students drew an outline of a wave on a piece of paper, and then used small strips of plaster to create texture in their artworks. Once dry, students used brushes and sponges to paint their waves. A simple and effective artwork!
